CATS Network

In recent years, Turkey has become increasingly significant for European stability. This rather new situation requires not only a re-thinking of European perspectives on Turkey, but also more consistent policy-making towards Ankara. With this in mind, the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS) has been established at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. Research at CATS focusses on different dimensions of Turkey’s domestic politics and foreign policy as well as on the relations between Turkey and Europe. Through its fact-based and independent research, CATS aims to contribute to discussions on a strategy-driven and coherent Turkey policy of the European Union (EU) and its member states.

To foster policy-related debates on Turkey at a European level, CATS is bringing together various Turkey experts from European and Turkish think tanks, universities, and research institutes by establishing the CATS Network. As a hub for joint research, the CATS Network endeavours to create a framework for discussions on the future of EU-Turkey relations. To enable cooperation, CATS will annually distribute project funding and fellowships. Research outputs and activities of network partners will be documented and disseminated through this website.
